My New Whip

For those of you who don't watch Cribs on MTV a "whip" is what gets someone around town--a car for most people. Today I purchased a new whip from Bike America. I have wanted a bike for some time and decided when making my 2009 personal goals that I wanted to ride a bike at least 3 times per week. Coupled with this goal was the desire to be able to take Addie out on bike rides through the beautiful trail systems we have here in Johnson County, Kansas. I think she will thoroughly enjoy it and our time away will give mommy some much needed time by herself. Plus as the weather warms I can take Addie to her babysitter's house and pick her up when it's time. So with all of that said here is a picture of my new Trek 7.2FX bike and Addie's sweet baby seat.

You can click on the links above to see more details about these items, but the coolest feature of all is that Addie's seat comes with a dual spring suspension system to give her a comfy ride plus adjustable footrests.

I know this post is getting a little long but one of the best parts about the purchase was the help from the guys at Bike America. Kevin, in particular, was extremely helpful and never once made me feel bad that I was just entering the biking world. I had not been that fortunate in a previous experience at Tern of the Wheel in Bradley, IL where the owner(s) made me feel like a tool because my Trek 730 was a bit dated. The guys, Kevin and Scott, were great to work with and offered to ride with me on the weekends when they take their kiddos out on the trails. One more huge benefit of buying from Bike America is that if you buy from them they will perform free tune-ups on your bike whenever you want. At $70 a pop that's a great selling point.

That's great, Jon. I know you and Addie will get a lot of enjoyment from your purchases.

I needed a recipe...and you failed. What happened to that which I once knew to be faithful?

Padraic: you assault my faithfulness with only your first or second comment on my blog--talk about not being faithful! Where's the love?

There is a difference between faithful reading and faithful commenting. Some would be happy with only a faithful reader, which leads me to believe that you are spoiled.

Now I'm just hurt.

nice bike!

we have a trailer that holds both girls (or at least it did last summer).

Chuck--I'm wondering if the trailer would have been the better buy. Addie is a little scared these days of most things, most notably falling down (from whatever). What kind of trailer did you buy? How much? Any other thoughts on the trailer that you'd like to share?
